If you are like me, a user of the Pay Per Click technique (Google Adwords or Yahoo Search Marketing) to boost traffic on your website or try to implement it, you certainly find difficult to don’t spend all your commission in advertising. In this example, I will explain you how I use my favourite search engine keyword tool, and how to use keywords with Google Adwords.

The first step, before thinking about your PPC keywords, is to identify the Niche you want to promote and understand the products and/or services. I will cover the Niche research somewhere else, so let’s focus on the second step.
So, considering that you passed this first step, where should you start when looking for long tail keyword? There is tons of free and paying methods out there, but before to use them, there is a simple technique that you can follow and apply to any industry:
Ask yourself: “If I was looking to purchase this product, what term would I type in Google?” This will give you the main terms that will be used later on to build your long tail keyword phrase.

Then I use the Wealthy Affiliate keyword tool (you can use other Adword tool but they are not as good as this one) to help me to identify phrases that will convert: high monthly research and low competition. Keep in mind that people searching for specific information won’t look for generic topic but targeted terms. Exemple, if I want to look good on the beach this summer, I will type “exercice to get six pack” rather than “weight loos”. And it is these phrases that Wealthy Affiliate keyword tool give to me.
Finally the phrase builder tool prepares a list of phrases combining all the keywords found before.

A case study is always better than a long discourse, so here we go!
As I am a fan of photography I decide to promote a guide to make night and motion pictures:
1. Niche identified:
Night photo
2. Main keywords:
night,
photography,
pictures,..
3. Use search engine keyword tool to identify the high traffic/low competition phrases:
So, we can see that this Niche have low competition for my main keywords and I found new ones: “First night photo” or “wedding night photo”.
4. Build keyword phrases:
It took me 30 second to write the main words in the two small boxes, then 1sec to build 25 phrases ready to be used with Google Adwords and Yahoo Search Marketing. Et voila!
5. Now, just split in groups and paste them in different Google Adwords adds.
Add1:
- Take night photo
- Take night picture
- ….
Add2:
- Make night photo
- ….
and so on.

So we’ve seen the easy steps to create profitable PPC campaign using the adapted search engine keyword tool. Of course, you can do all that manually but you risk spending a huge amount of time and waste money by using the wrong keywords. My last tips for you:
Use search engine keyword tool to build long phrases that will be more targeted to potential costumer, then have a better conversion per click (CPC) and be profitable.
Long tail keyword phrase are most of the time less expensive than short ones.
When you look for a specific Niche, you might find very interesting keywords. Just write them somewhere, it could be useful for your next successful campaign.
